Private Lesson Pricing and FAQ's private lessons | whistler links

Why take a private?

Studies consistently show that people who spend time skiing with an instructor on their ski vacation will come to enjoy their holiday more than if they had spent the whole time skiing on their own.

While there are many great programs at the Whistler Blackcomb Ski School, hiring a private instructor is by far the most efficient way to improve your skiing in the shortest amount of time.

The main difference between a group lesson and a private lesson is simple. When you take a private lesson it's all about you. In a group lesson its about everybody. When you take a private, the instructor can cater to your specific needs which means that you set the pace

In a group lesson there is always someone who is either faster or slower than you. That means that you are either being held back or you feel as if you are holding people back.

The other thing to remember is that up to four people can be included in a private lesson. If your friends or family are of similar ability and you have similar goals then you can all ski together. This means you can share the experience and the cost!

Of course it depends on your budget as to which type of program you take. Participating in a group program is far better than not taking a lesson at all. The Whistler Blackcomb ski school boasts some of the best instructors in the world and time spent in any improvement program is almost guaranteed to enhance your vacation experience.

However if you are serious about getting to the next level while maximizing your time, and it fits your budget then a private lesson is definitely the way to go.

How many people can be in a private lesson at one time?

Up to 4 people can participate in a private. This means that you can share the experience with your friends or family. However that being said if there are drastic differences in either abilities or expectations then the time will not be as productive if there were fewer, more like minded skiers.

Am I better to take a half day or a full day lesson?

It depends on what you're expectations are and you're fitness level.

A half day lesson is a great way to get some good feedback on you're skiing, learn some new skills and then go and work on what you've learned on your own.

Full days work really well for a lot of people because they have the opportunity to learn new skills in the morning and then hone them on different types of terrain in the afternoon. If you are fit enough this is one of the quickest ways to improve as you allow you're muscles to build muscle memory over longer period of time so that things become more natural instead of you having to think about everything all the time. A full day is also much cheaper than two half days.

If you're not sure you can always start with a half day and see how you feel from there.

If I'm going to take a half day lesson is better to go in the morning or afternoon?

It depends on how you feel you learn best and what the weather is. Typically the snow is best in the morning (everything is freshly groomed, or you have fresh new snow). Some people like to get a more relaxed start to the day and ski later into the afternoon. So really it depends on you, and of course mother nature.

What age should kids learn to ski?

It really depends on how strong and coordinated the child is. Most people say somewhere between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. This being said parents really shouldn't expect too much from their children until they have developed sufficient athleticism to allow them to coordinate the many skills required to ski. Just getting them out on the snow and sliding around is a good start and from there just see what happens. The most important thing is to make sure the kids are having fun.
